Renewable Energy Integration as a Catalyst for Agribusiness Sustainability and Green Enterprise Development: Empirical Evidence from Agricultural Education and Agribusiness stakeholders in Nigeria

The growing demand for sustainable agricultural production has increased the importance of renewable energy integration as a mechanism for enhancing agribusiness sustainability and promoting green enterprise development. Despite global advancements in clean energy technologies, their adoption within agribusiness-related educational and institutional systems in developing economies remains limited. This study investigated renewable energy integration as a catalyst for agribusiness sustainability and green enterprise development among agricultural education stakeholders in Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined existing renewable energy integration practices, identified barriers to adoption, assessed the effectiveness of educational initiatives promoting renewable energy utilization, and determined strategies for strengthening renewable energy integration for sustainable agribusiness development. Four research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The population comprised agricultural education lecturers in Nigerian universities, while 172 respondents were selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire validated by experts, with a Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.76. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed limited renewable energy integration practices, with inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, low stakeholder awareness, and insufficient technical expertise constituting major barriers to adoption. Educational initiatives demonstrated only moderate effectiveness in promoting renewable energy utilization. The study concludes that curriculum reform, industry partnerships, practical training opportunities, and supportive policies are essential for advancing renewable energy integration and fostering sustainable agribusiness and green enterprise development in Nigeria
